ABFinance, U.S. crypto exchange founded by former Bybit co-CEO, halts operations ABFinance, a U.S. regulation-compliant cryptocurrency trading platform founded by Helen Liu, the former co-CEO of crypto exchange Bybit, said on X on Aug. 14 that it has suspended operations. Liu had said on X in March that she established the U.S.-based exchange and had obtained a license aligned with U.S. regulatory requirements.

Solana Company, a Nasdaq-listed company focused on accumulating SOL under the ticker DAT, said in an earnings report it posted a net loss of about $30.3 million in the second quarter, or $0.38 per share. During the same period, HSDT generated about $2.5 million in revenue from staking its SOL holdings. According to CoinMarketCap, SOL was trading at $75.32, down 1.11%, at the time of writing.

CBOE seeks approval for first U.S. 3x Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs CBOE BZX, a unit of the Chicago Board Options Exchange, has filed with the U.S. SEC to list leveraged ETFs designed to deliver three times the daily returns of Bitcoin and Ethereum, The Block reported. According to the SEC, CBOE BZX is seeking to list six products in total, including a 3x Bitcoin ETF, a 3x Ethereum ETF, and 3x gold, silver, crude oil and natural gas ETFs. The ETFs are structured to track three times the one-day return of their underlying assets mainly by holding futures contracts on CME or COMEX, while the remaining assets would be held as cash or cash equivalents for collateral.

The White House plans to meet on Aug. 19 with representatives from the cryptocurrency and prediction market industries, and attendees are expected to include Ripple, Coinbase, Andreessen Horowitz, Chainlink and Paradigm, according to U.Today. An industry source said Tether has not disclosed audited financial statements or KPMG’s full audit report because it is a privately held company, according to The Block. The source added many private companies follow the same policy, citing Bloomberg as another private company that does not publish audited financial statements, and said Tether provides the statements to regulators and banks upon request.

KULR Technology, a New York Stock Exchange-listed company known as a digital asset treasury, has halted Bitcoin purchases and sold about 333 BTC since June to reinvest capital into its core business, CryptoSlate reported. KULR CFO Mike Kimel said the company’s Bitcoin accumulation strategy had provided financial flexibility, but Bitcoin’s volatility was making it harder for shareholders to assess the value of its core battery business. As of June 30, local time, KULR held 760 BTC.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said some critics continued attacking the company even after a formal audit by KPMG’s U.S. firm, and added he did not care because Tether had already proven itself many times. In an interview with The Block, Ardoino said he was happy to face criticism, adding it helped make the company better and stronger. Dartmouth College’s endowment held $12.4 million in crypto ETFs as of June 30, down more than $2 million from $14.6 million on March 31, Cointelegraph reported, citing filings submitted to the U.S. SEC. Justin Sun said he is in communication with Binance after the exchange announced deposit and withdrawal restrictions involving 11 exchanges and platforms, including HTX, formerly Huobi. In a post on X, Sun, an adviser to HTX and founder of Tron (TRX), said the issue applies only to Binance users in the UK and EU. Sun added HTX does not operate in the UK or EU and negotiations with UK and EU regulators are already under way. Sun also said HTX would work to resolve the issue if any users are affected.

Grayscale said Ethereum and Solana could become increasingly scarce as proposals to raise token burns and lower inflation are being pushed on both networks. Grayscale explained that if the proposals pass, Ethereum and Solana’s annual inflation rates could fall below those of gold, at around 1.8%, and the U.S. Consumer Price Index, or CPI, at around 3.3%, by 2031. That would mean the amount of new ETH and SOL issued in the future would decline significantly, slowing supply growth and increasing scarcity.

Morgan Stanley increased its holdings of crypto funds in the second quarter while reducing its positions in crypto-related stocks such as Coinbase, according to a 13F filing with the U.S. SEC. During the period, Morgan Stanley’s IBIT holdings rose about 23% to 16.5 million shares from 13.4 million shares. The bank also held 2.57 million shares of its own Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust (MSBT), valued at about $43.3 million. For Ethereum-related funds, Morgan Stanley increased its holdings of BlackRock’s ETHA by about 202% to 4.6 million shares and raised its Grayscale ETH holdings by about 26% to 5.1 million shares. By contrast, the filing showed Morgan Stanley cut its Coinbase stake by about 550,000 shares, reduced its CleanSpark (CLSK) position by more than 3.1 million shares, and fully sold its Bitfarms (BITF) position of about eight million shares.

Cosmostation, a wallet in the Cosmos (ATOM) ecosystem, announced it will shut down its service on Sept. 1, according to the company. After the shutdown, only the "recovery phrase export" and "private key export" functions will remain available, while all other features will be phased out. Cosmostation said that as a non-custodial wallet, user assets will remain stored on each blockchain. Users can move to another compatible wallet using a recovery phrase or private key, it said, adding that users are advised to securely back up their recovery phrase and private key before Sept. 1.

JPMorgan Chase increased its holdings of BlackRock’s IBIT and ETHA in the second quarter and opened a new position in a Bitwise Solana staking ETF, CoinPedia reported, citing a 13F filing. As of June 30, JPMorgan held about 10.4 million shares of BlackRock’s IBIT, worth roughly $355 million, up from about 8.3 million shares in the previous quarter. Its holdings of BlackRock’s ETHA stood at about 1.17 million shares, worth roughly $14.3 million, a 338% increase from the previous quarter. For XRP, JPMorgan had strategically sold its position in the first quarter but resumed holdings this time. As of June 30, the bank held stakes in the Bitwise XRP ETF and the Grayscale XRP Trust ETF, along with about 19,900 shares of Armada Acquisition Corp II, worth roughly $207,000, tied to a deal backed by Ripple. During the same period, JPMorgan also held about 47,500 shares of the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF, indicating it had established a new position.

Binance announced it will restrict deposits and withdrawals involving 11 exchanges and platforms, including HTX, formerly Huobi, starting Aug. 23. The restricted entities are HTX, Rapira, Aifory Pro, ABCeX, WhiteBird, NoOnecrypto INC., Tradex, Monease Ltd, BitPapa, Exnode and EXMO. Deposit and withdrawal attempts made after Aug. 23 will be put on hold, and related wallet restrictions may also apply. HTX was included in European Union sanctions targeting Russia in late July and was also added to the UK government’s sanctions list in May.
