Jurassic Finance, a real-world asset tokenization project, plans to tokenize Deaton, a Triceratops skull fossil, on Solana, BeInCrypto reported. Deaton has about 60% to 65% of its bone mass preserved. Jurassic Finance plans to set up a special purpose vehicle for each fossil and issue Solana Program Library standard tokens to give investors the entity’s economic and legal rights. Authenticity verification, storage and insurance will be handled off-chain, while only ownership records will remain on-chain. Jurassic Finance has been raising 660,000 USDC since July to fund the Deaton purchase. Of that amount, 600,000 USDC is allocated to seller escrow and 60,000 USDC to the RAWR treasury, the project’s native token. Uniswap founder Hayden Adams pushed back against market FUD over the “fee switch” mechanism in version four, saying concerns that enabling protocol fees would reduce liquidity providers’ yields are misplaced. Adams said v4’s protocol fee structure is designed not to deduct from LPs’ existing fees, but to add a separate charge on top of existing revenue. As a result, even if protocol fees are introduced, the actual fee income earned by LPs would not decline at all, while v4’s architecture would expand LPs’ opportunities to generate returns.

Citadel Securities raised the possibility of a 25-basis-point rate hike at the Federal Open Market Committee meeting on July 29, a move that could put short-term pressure on risk assets including Bitcoin if it lifts Treasury yields, CoinDesk reported. According to the outlet, Frank Flight, Citadel Securities’ head of macro strategy, argued Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh could deliver a surprise hike at this meeting rather than in September, which he said could mark the end of the Fed’s practice of signaling policy shifts in advance. Flight added waiting until September would allow markets to already price in a hike, sharply weakening the effect of the policy signal, and said an earlier increase could also influence corporate pricing and wage negotiations, potentially avoiding greater tightening over the longer term. Still, market consensus, including Kraken economist Thomas Perfumo, expects rates to remain unchanged at this meeting. CME FedWatch showed the probability of a July rate hike had risen to 35.8%, but a hold remained the base-case scenario.

Attorneys general from 44 U.S. states submitted a comment letter arguing the U.S. CFTC lacks authority over a proposed rule on sports-related prediction market contracts and should revise it entirely, CNBC reported. They argued the contracts are not derivatives but sports betting and gambling under state jurisdiction, and said the agency should make clear they are subject to state law rather than being allowed to trade on designated contract markets, or DCMs. Unlike the attorneys general who challenged the CFTC’s jurisdiction itself, CME Group took issue with the agency’s definition of "gaming," arguing the CFTC defined it as sporting events themselves rather than betting money on sports. CME Group said that definition would give the Commodity Exchange Act priority over state sports regulation and expand the agency’s authority too far. The CFTC and prediction market platforms, meanwhile, maintain all event contracts are derivatives under the CFTC’s jurisdiction. The CFTC is currently in litigation with nine U.S. states over its authority to regulate prediction markets, while courts in states including Michigan and Minnesota have issued conflicting rulings on whether such markets should be allowed.

South Korea’s deputy prime minister and finance minister Koo Yun-cheol said virtual asset taxation is being pushed ahead as scheduled for next year, according to News1. Koo made the remarks on July 29 while appearing before the National Assembly’s finance and economy committee, after People Power Party lawmaker Kim Sang-hoon asked whether an extension of the tax deferral was needed. Responding to Kim’s point that major advanced economies treat virtual assets as capital gains and allow loss carryforwards, Koo said stock investments also do not currently allow carryforwards. Koo added that virtual assets are classified as other income and already receive certain benefits, and said the government would be willing to review the issue if needed after the tax takes effect.

Uncertainty remains high over South Korea’s proposed Digital Asset Basic Act even as the National Assembly’s National Policy Committee resumes full operations and is set to hold a Financial Services Commission briefing and pending-issues questioning today, Newdaily Economy reported. A total of 10 related bills sponsored separately by lawmakers from the Democratic Party and the People Power Party are pending in the National Assembly. While lawmakers’ proposals covering issuance, distribution, disclosures and business regulation have accumulated, the Financial Services Commission has yet to unveil a government bill that would unify them into a single framework. An industry official said repeated debate over the same issues is likely unless the government sets out its principles on stablecoin issuers and rules on exchange ownership stakes, according to the outlet.
