ENS Labs, the service provider for Ethereum Name Service (ENS), has decided to halt the development of its proprietary Layer 2 Namechain and will deploy the upcoming ENSv2 update exclusively on the Ethereum mainnet (L1), The Block reported. The project was originally part of the ENSv2 update.
"Ethereum's base layer is scaling faster than anticipated, reducing the need to operate a separate L2," ENS Labs explained. Ju Ki-young, CEO of CryptoQuant, noted on X that according to the latest data released by Marathon Digital Holdings (MARA) in the third quarter of 2025, the average cost to mine Bitcoin was approximately $67,704.
