Jesse Pollak, a Coinbase executive leading Ethereum layer-two network Base, pushed back on claims that the company has been selling Ethereum, while highlighting Coinbase’s contributions to the ecosystem.
Recent criticism in the Ethereum community has centered on claims that Coinbase has been selling ETH, including sequencer revenue generated through Base, while accumulating assets mainly in Bitcoin. On X, Pollak rejected the claim, saying, "Coinbase is by far the largest holder of ETH among non-DAT institutions." Coinbase currently holds about 115,000 to 151,000 ETH in corporate treasury assets, worth roughly $300 million. Pollak also pointed to the company’s broader ecosystem role beyond treasury decisions, citing its involvement in the EIP-4844 upgrade that lowered transaction fees, its co-development of USDC, and the onboarding of millions of users. Pollak added that Base, which launched in 2023, recently reached Stage 1 decentralization, reducing centralized control and extending its growth momentum.

The attacker sent a small dust transaction of 0.0002 USDC to disguise a wallet address and trick the victim. The victim then copied and pasted the fake address from the transaction history and transferred the funds to it, leading to the theft of $2 million. The stolen funds were later swapped into 2 million DAI and are now being held at the address “0xe2eB...1816a,” PeckShield said.

Saxo Bank said in a report yesterday that Bitcoin could emerge as a hedge against currency debasement, supported by a strong mix of technical momentum, regulatory progress and macro tailwinds.
Neil Wilson, an analyst at the Danish investment bank, said Bitcoin’s recent breakout from a prolonged trading range and sharp surge came as instability in the U.S. Treasury market, ballooning government debt and ongoing Treasury buybacks prompted a reassessment of Bitcoin alongside gold as a "Scarce non-sovereign asset." Wilson also said a push in the U.S. Congress to pass the CLARITY bill, which would provide legal clarity for virtual assets, and supportive remarks from President Donald Trump have eased regulatory uncertainty and boosted expectations for institutional adoption. On the technical side, Wilson said Bitcoin had been stuck in a $62,000-$66,000 range before breaking decisively above $70,000, triggering buying and a short squeeze that added strong upward momentum across the broader market.

Legal pushback against Illinois’ newly introduced 0.2% crypto tax is expanding, with the Crypto Council for Innovation and the Blockchain Association filing an additional lawsuit against the state government. In a complaint submitted to a Sangamon County court on Friday, the two groups argued the tax law violates the U.S. Constitution, the Illinois Constitution and the Internet Tax Freedom Act. The suit marks a second legal challenge after the Digital Chamber filed its own case last month. In a statement, CCI CEO Ji Kim said the tax imposes a uniquely punitive burden on digital assets based solely on the underlying technology rather than the nature of the transaction, and argued that taxing only digital asset activity while exempting traditional assets amounts to illegally picking winners and losers through the tax system. The bill applies to companies based in Illinois or serving customers in the state with gross revenue of at least $100,000.

Bitcoin reclaiming $82,470 would support the view that the current cycle low has already formed, according to a Galaxy Research analysis.
The report said backtests of past Bitcoin bear markets showed a recovery of the 50-day moving average was an early signal but had low reliability. By contrast, the 50-week moving average was a much stronger signal, with only two of 13 historical recoveries followed by another decline. Bitcoin is currently trading around $77,500, up about 32.4% from its June 30 low, the report said. The 50-week moving average stands at $82,470, and a move above that level would support the conclusion that the low for this downturn cycle is already in place. The key, it added, is not simply breaking above that price level but whether Bitcoin can post a weekly close above the 50-week moving average.
