Hyperliquid-based Web3 super app Based (BASED) said it reported a debit card data leak to Singapore police and notified relevant authorities, including the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC).
Based CEO Edison Lim said on X the company is responding to affected users individually and cooperating with investigators. Lim added card services remain fully operational, while trading wallets and the app were not affected. Lim also said users control their own wallet private keys and Based does not store them.
Lim said an administrator dashboard tied to a suspected leak raised about five months ago was unrelated to the latest incident. According to Lim, the dashboard was part of a prototype built in March on OpenClaw, was never launched after a small internal test, and was later discontinued without storing customer data.

Pham said the Commodity Exchange Act is broad enough to classify nearly everything as a commodity, with the exception of onions and box office receipts from motion pictures, and said there are few areas beyond the CFTC’s regulatory reach.

South Korea’s tokenized securities market is preparing to expand beyond fractional investments tied to real estate and art into bonds and funds, Etoday reported.

For unlisted shares, beneficiary certificates in token form will be issued based on shares placed in trust, while shareholder rights such as voting rights and dividends will continue to be managed under the existing electronic securities system.

Bank of Korea Governor Shin Hyun-song said the central bank will closely monitor the potential for regulatory evasion through overseas crypto cards, as well as related consumer protection issues, Digital Asset reported.
At the National Assembly today, Shin made the remarks after Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Nam-jun raised concerns about possible regulatory circumvention through crypto cards. Shin said there are various risks, as Kim pointed out, particularly because crypto card operators are all based overseas and mainly rely on U.S. dollar stablecoins.
Kim said online posts are sharing so-called tips on crypto cards, including cashback and discount benefits as well as ways to avoid customs duties in overseas purchases. Kim added that a blind spot could emerge for customs enforcement if South Korean nationals buy expensive goods, alcohol, or luxury items abroad with coin cards and the spending is not tracked domestically.

On-chain analyst Murphy said about 32,000 BTC sent to exchanges by long-term holders on Oct. 7-8 included roughly 14,800 BTC in potential selling pressure.
In a post on X, Murphy said about 17,200 BTC was transferred during the same period from U.S. government-related wallets to Coinbase Prime. Murphy said it is hard to conclude those coins were meant for sale, as they may have been consolidated for custody or moved for legal procedures. The remaining 14,800 BTC, mainly from coins held for six to 12 months and three to five years, represented potential selling pressure.
Murphy added that if the market is shifting from a bear market to a bull market, sales by long-term holders do not necessarily need to be seen as negative. Murphy said selling has increased during past price corrections, but early supply overhang later eased pressure on the broader trend. More recently, even older holdings have started to move, Murphy said. On Oct. 8, the average holding period of BTC moved by long-term holders was 712 days, up from 651 days on July 14. If the bull market continues, older dormant holdings are also likely to emerge over time, Murphy said. The key issue, Murphy said, is how much of that selling the market can absorb, adding that if new demand is strong enough, the sales are unlikely to block the uptrend.

Crypto trader Ansem said on X that cryptocurrencies have significantly underperformed other assets over the past few years, with altcoins hurt by an exodus of key talent to the AI industry, a lack of DeFi innovation, and a repricing of gold. Ansem added that a large-scale liquidation event in the altcoin market on Oct. 10 last year further weighed on the sector, leaving both institutional and retail investors’ sentiment and portfolio allocations to altcoins near their lowest levels in years and possibly at record lows.
At the same time, Ansem said some altcoins face limited selling pressure from venture capital firms, have achieved real product-market fit on crypto infrastructure, and could benefit from an improving regulatory environment. Capital will likely become more concentrated in a small number of fundamentally strong tokens, Ansem said, adding that prices could rise quickly once those inflows begin.

Bitcoin may need to break through the $84,000-$85,000 range to extend its rally, as the largest concentration of investor holdings is clustered there based on on-chain data, on-chain analyst Darkfost said.
Darkfost said 53% of total Bitcoin invested capital, based on on-chain acquisition prices, was accumulated above $83,000, with the heaviest supply concentrated in the $84,000-$85,000 range. Darkfost added traders could react immediately in that zone, making it a clear key price range Bitcoin needs to break through. By contrast, the $77,000-$79,000 range could act as meaningful support. BTC was trading at $83,807.43, up 1.09%, according to CoinMarketCap.

CoinMarketCap’s Altcoin Season Index stood at 63. The index compares the price performance of Bitcoin and the top 100 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, excluding stablecoins and wrapped tokens. It is considered altcoin season when 75% of the top 100 coins have outperformed Bitcoin over the past 90 days, while the opposite is viewed as Bitcoin season. A reading closer to 100 indicates stronger altcoin season conditions.

Hyperliquid is closer to public infrastructure like the internet or Linux than to a cryptocurrency exchange, Hyperliquid co-founder and CEO Jeff Yan said in a recent interview, according to Wu Blockchain.
Yan said classifying Hyperliquid as a major crypto exchange or comparing it with CME or Nasdaq is not accurate. Yan added that the project is doing something no one had previously attempted, making it difficult to find an appropriate comparison. Rather than having 10 systems performing the same function, Yan said, one neutral system is needed. Yan added that the community’s goal is not to replace a specific target, but to offer users better services and functionality through public infrastructure.

Spot CVD is an order-book analysis chart for the BTC/USDT spot trading pair. The upper panel shows a volume heatmap, while the lower panel shows cumulative volume delta, or CVD.
- The volume heatmap in the upper panel tracks trading volume at each price level. The background becomes brighter when the price stays in a specific range for an extended period or moves sharply. Brighter zones may act as support or resistance levels.
- The cumulative volume delta indicator in the lower panel reflects buy and sell orders by order size. As buy orders increase, the line in the corresponding color moves higher. For example, the yellow line represents orders between $100 and $1,000, while the brown line represents large orders between $1 million and $10 million.
